"The Value of Waiting" from Acts 1:4-9

Dear Friends,

How good are you at waiting? Would most say you are a patient person?

I find that most of us, from time to time, are impatient. Whether it be in a slow-moving line at the supermarket or DMV, or waiting behind the driver who fails to move after the signal turns green, our patience is often tested. From the silly to most sensitive situations, we often pray, "God, give me patience and give it to me now."

In Acts 1:4-9 there are insights on The Value of Waiting on God. I hope this message will be a blessing to you as it was to me and our people at Royal Palm.  As Holy Spirit speaks to you, respond to his glory. And let me know what insights God brings to your attention. I'd love to hear.

God bless you, Kirk McCormick

 “The Value of Waiting”

Psalm 37:7 – “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.”

Why Wait on God?

Overall… it is in the waiting that God perfects our faith.

** Yet… how many times have we grown impatient/tire of waiting… only to seize control and try to make things happen in our time, with our resources, given our knowledge.

** While we Wait, God
perfects our…

Wants (Wills)

Acts 1:7 – He said to them, “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.”

Recap: Likewise our FAITH is perfected as we adjust our “Wants” (as gung-ho as we may be) to the will of God…

…and our will become His will…

…and this takes time because our wills can be so stubborn/strong  it is in the quiet of Waiting that we become submissive by looking into the eyes of God through our hearts.

** While we Wait, God perfects our…

Attention

Ecclesiastes 5:1 – “Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.”

Recap: So our FAITH is perfected as we give our full attention to God and LISTEN more intently to his voice…

** While we Wait, God perfects…

Inspiration and Insight in us

Psalm 130:5 – “I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope.”

Recap: So our FAITH is perfected as God inspires and empowers us to fulfill his will… all because we wait on his vision

** While we Wait, God perfects our…

Trust

Isaiah 40:31 – “Those who wait on the LORD will renew their strength.”

Recap: So our FAITH is perfected as we learn to trust God for his promises…even if it takes decades to fulfill

How can waiting perfect our Wants, Attention, Inspiration/Insight, Trust?

** Biblical waiting is not passive waiting, not just killing time…

So…

App:  As God perfects our Wants, we SUBMIT all things to his Lordship so that his ways are our ways.

Hymn – Take my Life and Let it Be

Verse – “Take my will and make it thine. It shall be no longer mine. Take my heart it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne.”

And…

App: As God perfects our Attention, we pray – honing our ability to LISTEN to God as much as we speak to him.

“This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”

App: As God perfects his Insights/Inspiration in us we SEEK the anointing of his Spirit

Psalm 51:10 – “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

App: As God perfects Trust in us we LEARN more about those promises he wants us to trust by Reading his Word.

Psalm 86:11 – “Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart to revere your name.”

How to Wait…

1. Waiting takes Time. Cannot be rushed.

App: So set apart time each day to wait on the Lord

2. Waiting takes discipline.  Must be learned.

App: So don’t get frustrated as you wait on the Lord and your MIND WANDERS… you will learn.

3.  Waiting takes humility.  Willingness to admit God knows better and his timing is impeccable.

App: So…can we give up control and Let God Be God?
